Creative Work

Dr. Valentín’s creative writing has been published both in print and online. Please see the Publications page for more details. They previously co-designed and conceptualized the Streaks of Lavender zine alongside the writing collective of the same name.

They currently have a visual novel in development. The game is about navigating the PhD process as a queer, disabled, student of color. It weaves personal experience alongside statistical data in a satirical and accessible manner to emphasize the particular difficulties of marginalized students while also providing advice necessary to survive the academy.

Dr. Valentín is currently developing a podcast entitled Palette Swap. The show is co-hosted by their brother Mikhail Antonio Valentín and centers character design and gaming history to think about ethical design practices and industry trends.

Their illustrations appear in Dr. Ashleigh Greene Wade’s book Black Girl Autopoetics which, “explores how Black girls create representations of themselves in digital culture with the speed and flexibility enabled by smartphones. She analyzes the double bind Black girls face when creating content online: on one hand, their online activity makes them hypervisible, putting them at risk for cyberbullying, harassment, and other forms of violence; on the other hand, Black girls are rarely given credit for their digital inventiveness, rendering them invisible.” -Duke University Press

GLHF!

I’m an educator, writer, and artist that is fascinated by the intersection between tech and tenderness, care and computing, electronics and ethics. I enjoy thinking far too deeply about games, artificial intelligence, literacy (media, digital, and otherwise), and technology justice. Welcome to this page. Good luck, have fun!

AFK!

Here’s where I play when I’m away from keyboard.
